TiALN coating

 

For uncoated tools and machine parts the reliability and lifetime of the utility of the surfaces is, in most cases, influenced by wearing character. Technological methods of surface treatment allow for resolving the problems of short-term lifetime of mechanically stressed parts. TiALN is deposited industrially through physical vapor deposition (PVD). Below is a cross-section of the TiALN coating deposited via PVD on steel substrate.

A of thin coating, in this case titanium aluminium nitride (TiALN), can significantly decrease friction, heat, provide high hardness, high wear resistance, and chemical stability. While TiALN is not the only coating available, generally speaking it tends to outperform other similar coatings such as Titanium Carbo-Nitride (TiCN).
